RE: [K12OSN] odd problem

The server is different hardware. It is in runlevel 5. It has a gui logon
and it works just fine.

The network is well known and documented. I am not having connection
problems at all. The machine goes into a normal bootup process until it
attempts to start the xserver. That's when it starts flashing screen-fulls
of information at me. They go by so fast that I cannot tell what they are
saying. After about 7 screens of info flash by, the screen halts and says
fatal error, no valid modes found.

Hi Aaron,

So the monitors are different.

How about trying a monitor from the class on a known good terminal?

What we have to do is start eliminating possible causes.

You have a different server. Is it identical hardware? (I don't think this
is the problem)

You have a different network.
Do you know all the little 'niceties' of that network? Is it totally
documented? I inherited one that isn't well documented.

You have a different monitor.

Does the terminal go through it's power on self test?

What point does it stop working?

Do you have a a GUI login on the server?
Remember, the server has to be at runlevel 5 for the terminals to get the
GUI (unless this has been changed and I've missed it).

This may sound simple, and I'm not trying to be patronising, so please
forgive me in advance. But it's the only way I know to eliminate possible
causes.

Cheers,
Bert
