Sounds like you changed the kernel, but not the initial ram disk.

Make sure your /tftpboot/lts/pxe/pxelinux.cfg/default looks like this:

	label linux
	  kernel vmlinuz-2.4.9-1-kitchen-sink
	  append root=/dev/ram0 rw init=/linuxrc initrd=initrd.ks


(note the "initrd=initrd.ks")
