I can run top and watch it start up and it will instantly utilize 70%-90% of the CPU Cycles and 60%95% of the available memory. This is a RedHat 7.3 box and is running Apache 1.3.27, Postfix, and an imap, pop3 daemon. It has a P-III 1ghz proc & 512mb ram. If I run top and spamassassin or spamd is not running then i show hardly any processor or memory utilization. I have tried adding more memory and it has not helped. I also tried upgrading spamassassin, no luck. I am wondering if this could have something to do with Perl? I am running 5.6.1. If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it.

I'm running SpamAssassin with spampd on RH7.3/Perl 5.6.1 w/o any problems.

The RPMS, scripts, and config files I have are available if that helps:
