Hmmm, here's an ugly-but-quick fix: turn off the splash screen.

Edit /usr/share/applications/gnome-gimp.desktop and towards the
bottom change:

	Exec=gimp

to:

	Exec=gimp --no-splash


I'll see what I can do about finding a "real" fix.
