[K12OSN] MToolFM and USB access at a client

Help?
I am still trying to get local access to USB drives at a client. I
looked at http://www.ltsp.org/contrib/LTSP_FLOPPY.html, but it simply
confused me at present. Is this the path to take?
I can mount /dev/sda1 and use cp to copy files to/from as root or a
normal user now if I am at the server. I had to reset permissions on
/dev/sda1 to get mtools working for a normal user. BUT ....
If I log into a terminal server client, and bring up MToolsFM, it still
expects the device to be located at the server!! Not what I was hoping
for since I want to use the device via a USB port on the client. (Of
course, kind of makes sense since apps are running on the server, not
client.) It appears that there is USB support in the kernel at the
client (since the device shows an OK status), but I am not running local
apps.
For my particular device, fdisk reports the following:
[root@ncsltsp etc]# fdisk -l /dev/sda
Disk /dev/sda: 8 heads, 16 sectors, 500 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 128 * 512 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 1 500 31982+ 1 FAT12
I added
# First SCSI hard disk partition
drive r:
file="/dev/sda1"
fat_bits=12
cylinders=500 heads=8 sectors=16
mformat_only
to /usr/local/etc/mtools.conf. (Also had to make the same changes in
/etc/mtools.conf for the client to work?). (which I thought is
redundant, but ..)
Anyhow, ideas on how to get the drive recognized at the client? Is
there a config setting to point at the client?
I will keep fumbling with it to see if I can get a solution. Not
hopeful though. Alain Knaff has been very helpful in getting to this
point. Perhaps starting floppyd with the correct parameters somehow may
make this work.
Thanks,
