I would use Nautilus 
In the Location box type  start-here:///
Choose  -> System Settings
Then choose -Packages
In the Add or Remove Packages dialog scroll down to  Development Tools
click on the check box  then click on details
Choose the components you want to install with the check boxes
Then choose Close - this will close the details dialog
Then on the bottom of the screen click on Update

You will be prompted for the appropriate 3.0.1 discs ...

It's done

I think this is neat, and certainly convenient...
